If a match is postponed after the deadline, your chip stays spent. A chip is spent on the gameweek, not on the fixture. If your captain's match is the one called off, the armband passes to your vice-captain, and a Triple Captain goes with it.
What happens to each chip
- Triple Captain. If your captain doesn't play, your vice-captain scores triple instead. If neither plays, the chip is wasted.
- Bench Boost. Your bench scores whatever it actually scores. A bench player whose match is postponed scores zero, like anyone else who doesn't play.
- Free Hit. Your one-week squad plays out the gameweek as it stands. Any of its players with a postponed match score zero.
- Wildcard. Nothing changes. The transfers are already made and they stay made.
The exception: a whole gameweek called off
In September 2022, every Gameweek 7 match was postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. FPL rolled the gameweek over with no points scored, and it reinstated the Triple Captain, Bench Boost and Free Hit chips managers had played. That was a whole gameweek. For a single postponed match, the chip stays spent.
What happens to the fixture itself
A postponed match doesn't disappear. It gets rescheduled, usually into a later gameweek. That's how blank and double gameweeks happen. A team has a blank in the week its match was meant to be played, and a double in the week that takes the rearranged game on top of its normal one.
As at 22 September 2026, there are no blank or double gameweeks scheduled up to Gameweek 12. Every club has one fixture in each of Gameweeks 6 to 12.
What to do in the week it happens
- Before the deadline, you can still cancel a Triple Captain or Bench Boost. If a postponement is announced before the deadline, check your captain and bench first.
- After the deadline, nothing can change. The vice-captain takes over automatically, and you can't swap anyone in.
- Your first set of chips still expires at the Gameweek 19 deadline, 2 January. A postponement doesn't extend it.
The only real protection is checking fixture news before you commit a chip, not after.
